Was the Groundhog right?

Last weekend, I watched our lovely groundhog friend report that we will have an early spring. I hope he is right! Although winter has been mild, it hasn’t been all that forgiving.

As I watch it rain out my office window and work on a client’s style guide, I found myself thinking about just how important outerwear is in springtime as to what you are wearing underneath it.

On my last blog, I discussed 5 wardrobe pieces that are worth investing in for spring and so I thought it would only be fitting to include some stylish outerwear that will move you from winter to spring.

When you consider spring jackets and/or coats, there are some important factors to keep in mind. Spring is a season where you never know what you are going to get. It could be rain, snow, sleet, or all the above, on the same day. Or, it could be warmth and sunshine. Being prepared is key to taking on the season and enjoying it along the way.

Here are my recommendations for spring outerwear this year:

1.     A faux leather trench coat- spruce up your average trench coat with a faux leather one. It not only will keep you dry during rainy days, but it is super stylish, it’s versatile, and it brings some fun to a basic coat. One I am loving is the Croc Embossed Faux Leather Trench Coat.

2. Quilted Field Jacket-when you need a warmer jacket that is cozy and causal, this is my go to. I especially love these for a weekend trip to the park or casual outing. The quilting will keep you warmer than a typical field jacket so opt for the additional warmth. An example is the Quilted Downtown Field Jacket.

3. Fleece Jacket-Another cozy, casual style but this one works well with athleisure styling. This is great for going to the gym, out for run, or taking your kids to the park. One of my favorites is the Polartec® Fleece Half-Zip Jacket.

4. Bomber Jacket-This jacket will keep you warm but can also be worn when the weather is mild outside. I love this with a good pair of denim, sneakers, and a cardigan. It is very functional in the spring and even works well on cool evenings at the beach. Add some print to make it fun too! One I am loving this spring is the Ainsley Embroidered Bomber Jacket.

5. Faux Suede Duster Jacket-For more dressed up outings, a duster jacket can do wonders for your style and outfit in the spring. Add so flare to it by changing up the typical wool material to faux suede. Wear it to a theater performance, the movies, or a party. Dress it up with high heels, ponte pants, and a dressy button down. I am in love with this one by Forever 21 (ok, before you curl your nose up at me, it’s not just for young girls. They really have some cool stuff for us middle aged women too)! The rose color is so amazing too, Faux Suede Duster Jacket.

Are you excited for spring now or what?

Speaking of spring, we are coming upon our closet detox time where we organize and detox our closet and change out from Fall/Winter to Spring/Summer in our closets. This will be coming up in early April. I will be sure to walk you through the process by means of my free closet detox guide via Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest. If you do not have it, you can download it here now, Free Closet Detox Guide. My social media handle is @storytellerstylist if you would like to follow.

Lastly, we will be doing a styling challenge in March in the Storyteller Stylist Style Insider’s Facebook Group if you want to join us! It’s free to join and there are prizes you can win if you participate. So cool, right!

That’s all for now. Enjoy and bring on spring!
