If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that summer is my favorite season. Not because I love to sweat (I like to reserve my sweat sessions for workouts) but because I enjoy being outdoors and sitting on my porch enjoying the longer days of sunlight. Not to mention the laid vibe.

But let’s be real. There is nothing comfortable about being in sweltering heat in fabric that is a sticky, hot, sweaty mess.

In the northern hemisphere we are officially kicking off summer in a few weeks. This had me thinking, “Do women know how to stay cool and dry in the summer and still look uber stylish? The need for cool fabrics is a no brainer but the kicker is, they need to be stylish and timeless.

This is why I am sharing with you my top 5 summer fabrics to keep you cool as a cucumber and stylish as a queen. Well, maybe not a queen, but you get the point.

1.     Eyelet- is a type of lace made by creating holes in a fabric medium. The holes create patterns, typically in a flower pattern or abstract geometric design. I love the variations in colors, patterns, and styles. My favorites are eyelet dresses and shirts.

2.     Linen- a true staple of summer fabrics, it’s made from the fibers of the flax plant. It dries quickly and feels light and is exceptionally durable, making it an amazing summer fabric. I love Linen in dresses, shorts, and wide-leg pants.

3.     Organic Cotton- made without toxic chemicals and GMOs, it’s environmentally friendly and sustainable, not to mention a cool, dry fabric. Shirts made of organic cotton are super comfortable and cool.

4.     Rayon- is manufactured fiber and made from natural sources. It is soft, lightweight, and absorbent, meaning less wetness. It’s also stretchy. Just be careful when washing as it can shrink easily. I love rayon for skirts.

5.     Raffia/Rattan- I typically prefer this material in my wallets, clutches, and purses, and is my preferred summertime material in this area. I also own some earrings that are raffia. Raffia is palm tree native to Africa and Madagascar. The fiber from the leaves are what is used in making the products. Rattan is similar but it is from the thin stems of the palm tree, typical in making furniture. Although you are not typically wearing this fabric, carrying a tote or purse with a heavy fabric can make your body heat up even more! This is why I added this one, plus they are the perfect summer accessory.

You are ready to take summer by storm! Now get on with your stylish, cool self.
