Styling with Confidence

It’s hard to believe 2019 is almost over as it felt as if it went by so fast! As we enter a new decade, I find myself reflecting on the last 10 years.

A lot has changed, including getting married, having two kids, adopting my first dog, building a house, and of course, starting up my own business. When I think back, excitement builds for looking forward. I’m a planner and I take time to plan out each thing on my list to accomplish for the year. But I also cannot help to think a little forward in a new decade.

Which brings me to my next point. I didn’t always have style confidence. I loved picking out outfits and trying new things, but I sometimes wondered if I looked like I was trying too hard, or my prints matched, or if I made the right decision wearing flats over heels. I used to get hung up on my body shape too. Trying to hid under clothing has the opposite effect, by the way!

If you are lacking style confidence, I have some tips for you that really helped me many years ago that are always applicable when it comes to styling with confidence:

  1. Learn how to dress for your body shape- Ok, you have heard me say this over and over again but it really does make a MAJOR difference if you know how to dress for your body shape. Clothes are cut differently and lay differently, this is why it looks one way on a model and a different way on you. Know your body shape, dress to balance your body and your confidence will soar!

  2. Know your style personality- We all have a style personality and finding it is important to getting dressed with confidence. Having a signature look not only makes you feel like you, it is part of your authentic style. And being authentic in your style boosts confidence.

  3. Wear prints that work for you- Try to stick with small prints where you want to minimize areas and larger prints where you want to accent areas of your body. Wearing large prints on areas you want to minimize will only make those areas appear even larger. However, wearing smaller prints on larger areas will create an illusion with the eyes that the area is smaller. This helps to balance the body.

  4. Wear color that is flattering for you- when you wear color that accentuates your skin undertone, it not only helps you look more rested and has a brightening effect for your face but it also helps boost your confidence and makes you feel more alive. Apply this concept to makeup as well and do not be afraid to add color!

  5. Practice self love- You can wear the best outfit for you on the planet but if you do not believe in yourself or respect yourself, then confidence will be hard to come by. Remember to be kind to yourself and remember we are all different for a reason. You are most beautiful when you are most authentically you!

Get out there and experiment more with your closet. It can’t hurt and the act might even wake up your confidence like never before. And if people start talking, well, it just means you are doing something right!

Carrie
