How to Level Up Your Style During Virtual Meetings

Most of us are still either working from home full-time, part-time, or some sort of split between the two. Virtual meetings have skyrocketed in the past year with the pandemic and they are likely to continue, even post-pandemic. It’s an easy way for people to connect and businesses to save cost instead of flying people in to meet in office buildings. A mix of both will most likely be the outcome.

So how do you ensure you are presentable, professional, and put together during your virtual meetings/events? By knowing your authentic style and knowing what looks best (and what doesn’t work so well) on video calls.

You want to stick with what you would normally wear to the office (unless your business style is way off, then let’s fix that first) but with some tweaks. Let me give you some ideas:

1. Solid colors work great as they avoid a distraction of busy print. Stick with colors that complement your skin undertone on top as this will help to prevent looking washed out.

2. If you want to wear print, that’s great but try to stick with low contrast and small scale. Meaning, if the base color is navy, stick with a print that is close to that color. Also, smaller scale print will be a lot less distracting than large scale print. I would avoid the double whammy of high contrast and large print.

3. Brighter colors are ok if they go well with your skin undertone. On video, they don’t appear as bright as in person.

4. Pair a blazer with a sweater, blouse, or button-up. A blazer will immediately elevate any look.

5. Add simple jewelry, such as a necklace and stud earrings or just statement earrings.

6. If you are only going to be visible from the waist up, it’s ok to throw on a pair of comfortable pants, such as joggers, ponte pants, or leggings. If you are going to do that though, just make sure they will not be visible on camera.

7. Dresses can work nicely as well. If sleeveless, pair with a blazer or cardigan.

8. Don’t forget grooming as well! Add some makeup and style your hair.

Follow these ideas and your upcoming video meetings/events will leave you feeling confident and prepared. And if you need some ideas, I put together a style board of some options/ideas. You can view the products link here:
